Short answer: Searchfunder is a paid online community for people buying small businesses, mostly searchers and the investors, lenders and brokers who work with them. Its own pricing panel, read on 14 October 2026, lists three plans: $79 a month, $19 a month on an annual plan, and $432 once for lifetime access. Members get the forum, a member directory, licensed industry reports and transaction financials, and monthly credits for company contact data. It is not a deal marketplace and it does not check anybody's numbers. The reviews we could read are mixed in a specific way: members who post and use the network daily value it, and people who joined, drifted and were billed $79 were unhappy. If you are actively searching, the annual plan at about $228 a year is cheap. If you are not, do not leave a monthly plan running.

Everything below comes from Searchfunder's own pages, from an archived copy of its homepage, and from named threads on Searchfunder itself. Where we could not verify something, we say so. Nothing here is investment advice.

Searchfunder cost in 2026

Searchfunder describes itself as "a subscription service" with "flexible monthly, annual and lifetime memberships". The figures on its public FAQ panel on 14 October 2026:

Searchfunder planPrice
Monthly$79 a month
Annual$19 a month
Lifetime$432 once

The annual plan works out to $228 a year, which is our arithmetic on the $19 monthly equivalent. That makes the monthly plan about four times the price of the annual one for the same access, and the lifetime plan equal to about 19 months of the annual plan or five and a half months of the monthly one.

There is one more rule on the same panel that changes the math: "Those who maintain an account with us for over 4 continuous years are permanently added to the community without the need for a membership." Four years of the annual plan costs about $912, so lifetime at $432 is the cheaper route to permanent access, and four years of the monthly plan, about $3,792, is the most expensive way to get there by a wide margin (both our arithmetic).

This pricing is newer than many of the reviews you will find. An Internet Archive copy of the homepage from 24 May 2025 answered "What does it cost?" differently: "Searchfunder is free if you post. This means we charge a monthly fee but if you contribute to the community by making a post or answering someone else's post, you will earn free months in the future." The current panel no longer mentions earning free months. If you read an older post saying Searchfunder is effectively free for active members, that was the model at the time and it is not the one on the site today.

What a Searchfunder membership includes

Searchfunder's FAQ lists the benefits in its own words. Treat them as the company's claims, because we have not been able to inspect the member area:

  • The community itself: searchers, investors, lenders, brokers and other professionals posting questions, deals, jobs, events and capital raises.
  • A member directory, a search fund list and company contacts.
  • "Over 15,000 industry reports and 50,000 transaction financials", licensed from data providers.
  • Monthly credits for contact information for a sourcing campaign, with more available to buy.
  • An intern job board, which Searchfunder calls the industry's largest.

An older FAQ post on the site adds the tool names: InvestorMatch and DealMatch for pairing searchers with investors, a DealExchange for listings, company sourcing through Data Axle and valuation data from BVR DealStats. The same post notes that Searchfunder does not take a transaction fee.

On deals, Searchfunder is candid: "While we are primarily a buy-side network, we do have hundreds of brokers that regularly post deals to the community." So you will see deals, but the site is built for talking about buying, not for browsing inventory. If inventory is what you want, compare it with the off-market deal sources and the paid listing tools below.

Searchfunder reviews from members

We could not find an independent review-site score that we could tie to Searchfunder with confidence. A business directory page shows Chrome Web Store and G2 ratings next to the Searchfunder name, but nothing on it shows those ratings belong to searchfunder.com rather than another product, so we do not repeat them. What exists in quantity is members talking about Searchfunder on Searchfunder, which has an obvious bias but is at least firsthand.

Three threads cover the questions most buyers have.

Is the contact data included? An intermediary from Texas A&M University posted, about four years ago, that they "thought Data Axle was included with the membership, but when I run a search, it looks like I am required to pay for the data." A Searchfunder admin replied that members can browse companies free of charge and that "downloads and contacts are still available for purchase." That matches the current wording about monthly credits with the option to buy more. Budget for contact data on top of the membership if your search relies on direct outreach.

The billing surprise. A long-time subscriber from Chicago Booth asked how to cancel "after I was charged 79$", adding that "the lack of warning about the charge really spook me." The admin replied that the site shows how many free days remain in the footer of every email and in a countdown bar on the front page. The member's answer was that a charge deserves "a special notification with a different header." Both can be true. The practical lesson is to put the renewal date in your calendar the day you join.

Is it useful once you are searching? A Chicago Booth searcher six months into a search wrote that they had "yet to find any consistent rhythm or way to find it valuable beyond reading the occasional post." The replies describe how regular members use it: one searcher reads the daily new-posts email and skims threads for knowledge they will need later, and another points to the webinars, past events, videos and database, adding "You won't find this in a google search."

The front page on 14 October 2026 shows the other side. One member posted a closed deal after a 1,353-day search with their own tally: 672 NDAs signed, 23 offers sent, 5 offers accepted, 4 dead deals and 1 acquisition, with the loan broker, bank, attorney and insurer named. A lender in another thread explained in detail how the 2026 SBA citizenship rules affect buyers with green cards. That kind of specific, practitioner-to-practitioner detail is what the membership actually sells.

Is Searchfunder worth it?

Searchfunder is worth paying for if you are a full-time searcher, a self-funded buyer working through broker deals or a first-time acquirer who wants to ask a lender, attorney or another searcher a precise question and get a precise answer. At $228 a year on the annual plan, one avoided mistake on an LOI or a lender introduction covers it many times over.

It is not worth paying for in three cases:

  • You are curious about buying a business but not searching yet. The free reading on the public pages is enough, and the monthly plan is where people get billed for months they did not use.
  • You want listings. Searchfunder is primarily a buy-side network. A board with inventory serves that need better.
  • You are buying a software business. Most of the community, the data and the lender talk is about main street and lower middle market companies valued on cash flow, not SaaS valued on recurring revenue.

Searchfunder against other paid buyer memberships

Each price below was read on the provider's own page, on the date given in our review of it.

Buyer membershipPrice
Searchfunder$79 a month, $19 annual
BizBuySell EdgeAs low as $20 a month
DealStream Pro$40 a month or $400 a year
Kumo Pro$89 a month
Buyouts Buyer Access$99 a month
BizScout Pro$199 a month, $129 annual

They sell different things, which matters more than the price. BizBuySell Edge adds listing statistics and valuation reports to a free board. DealStream Pro unlocks premium listings. Kumo aggregates broker listings into one feed. BizScout Pro sells off-market leads. Searchfunder sells the network and the research data. Buyouts lists one category, AI SaaS, and checks MRR, ARR, growth and churn against the billing system before a listing goes live. Buyer Access is $99 a month or $588 a year, there is no buyer success fee, and annual billing brings it to $49 a month.

Plenty of serious buyers pay for two of these: a community to learn from and a source of deals. If you use Searchfunder's contact credits for an outreach campaign and run out, a separate email finder that verifies each address is usually cheaper per contact than buying extra credits, though compare the per-contact price before you commit.

Using Searchfunder well if you join

Members who get the most from it post. The site's own guidance used to reward posting with free months and the regulars in the threads above describe reading daily and asking specific questions. A post that gives your target size, industry, financing plan and the exact problem gets answers from lenders and operators. A post that asks how to start searching gets links.

Use the transaction data to sanity-check prices, not to set them. A sold-comparables database tells you what similar businesses traded at. It does not tell you whether the listing in front of you earns what it says. For that you need tax returns, bank statements and, for a lender, a debt service test. Our cash flow screener for a business for sale strips unprovable add-backs from a listing's SDE and tests what is left against an SBA loan, and the SBA pre-qualification checker runs the lender's 1.25x test at your price.

If the business you want is software, start where the revenue is already verified. See the buyer plans or browse the board.

How do I cancel a Searchfunder membership?

Searchfunder's admin pointed a member to a direct cancellation link in the account area in the thread quoted above, and the site shows remaining free days in email footers and on the front page. Cancel before the renewal date on a monthly plan. We found no published refund policy on the public pages, so check it before choosing the lifetime plan.

Is Searchfunder legit?

Yes, in the sense that matters: it is an established community that real searchers, investors and lenders use under their own names and school affiliations, and it says it takes no fee on transactions. Its claim that "over 80% of those involved in searchfunds maintain a Searchfunder account" is its own and we cannot verify it. Like any community, the quality of what you get depends on the members who answer, and nobody on the site vouches for a deal posted there.
