A business buyer at a desk weighing the cost of a paid membership before buying a business

Short answer: BizBuySell Edge is the paid buyer membership on BizBuySell, advertised at "as low as $20/month". It does not unlock any listings, because every BizBuySell listing is already free to browse and contact. What you pay for is information around those listings: which ones are popular or price-reduced, local demographics, commercial real estate data, industry financial benchmarks, up to four valuation reports a year and a badge that tells sellers you are a serious buyer. It has also become thinner as it has become dearer. BizBuySell's own page showed $14.99 a month with a valuation report every month in April 2025, and shows $20 with four reports a year in April 2026. For a main street buyer who would buy those four reports anyway, Edge pays for itself. For everyone else, the searchers who have tried it mostly say they would not renew.

Everything below is read from BizBuySell's own pages, from dated archive copies of them, and from named threads on Searchfunder. Where a figure is not published, it says so. Nothing here is investment advice.

BizBuySell Edge membership cost

BizBuySell publishes one number for Edge, "As low as $20/month", on its Edge membership page. It does not show the plan terms behind that phrase on the public page. "As low as" normally means the price of the longest term, and a searcher on Searchfunder describes trying "the 1-month option instead of prepaying for an entire year", so there is at least a monthly plan and an annual one. BizBuySell's live site refused our automated read on 13 October 2026, so the current figures here come from the archive copy of its Edge page dated 3 April 2026, and the month-to-month price is one we could not read and will not guess.

Edge page, by archive dateAdvertised price
10 August 2024As low as $14.99 a month
4 April 2025As low as $14.99 a month
3 April 2026As low as $20 a month

That is a 33% increase in the advertised floor in a year, from about $180 to $240 annually if the "as low as" figure is the annual plan (our arithmetic). The price is still small next to any other paid buyer tool. The more important change is what the money buys.

What BizBuySell Edge includes, and what stays free

Registered users, who pay nothing, can already save listings, save searches, track their inquiries and contact any seller or broker. BizBuySell's comparison table on the Edge page lists eight things only members get:

  • A badge that tells every seller you contact that you are a serious buyer.
  • Up to 4 free Valuation Reports per year.
  • Icons showing which listings are new, popular or price-reduced.
  • Local area demographic data.
  • Commercial real estate data, from parent company CoStar.
  • Comparison of saved listings against industry financial benchmarks.
  • Personalized listing recommendations.
  • Extra search filters, such as price reductions and recent updates.

Notice what is missing from that list: listings. Edge does not add inventory, an early look at new listings, or any verification of the numbers in a listing. BizBuySell is an advertising board, and its listings are written by sellers and brokers. Our BizBuySell review covers what the site does and does not check.

The valuation reports were cut from twelve a year to four

This is the detail the membership page does not draw attention to. In August 2024 and again in April 2025, the Edge page said members "receive one free Valuation Report per month, a savings of up to $59.95". A BizBuySell blog post from 27 June 2023 says the same. By April 2026 the wording is "up to 4 free Valuation Reports per year".

Edge, then and nowApril 2025April 2026
Advertised price$14.99 a month$20 a month
Valuation reports12 a yearUp to 4 a year
Report value at $59.95$719$240

The last row is our arithmetic, using the $59.95 per report that BizBuySell quoted in 2025. On those numbers the old Edge returned about four times its annual price in reports alone. The current one returns almost exactly what it costs: four reports at $59.95 is $239.80, against roughly $240 a year. So the honest way to think about Edge today is as a prepaid pack of four valuation reports with some listing statistics attached.

A BizBuySell valuation report compiles sale prices and multiples from sold businesses in the same industry and area. It is a comparables report, not an appraisal of the business you are looking at, and an SBA lender will not accept it in place of the independent valuation it has to order above a $350,000 price.

Is BizBuySell Edge worth it?

The people who have paid for it and written about it are lukewarm. Two Searchfunder threads ask the question directly, and the replies visible without logging in are these:

  • A Columbia Business School searcher, after a week: "I'm struggling to find its usefulness. There are a few data points that are revealed like how many people saved a particular business opportunity. And there's a heatmap that indicates how 'hot' a business is based on number of views. Marginal use at best in my opinion." He cancelled, and was glad he had tried one month instead of a year.
  • A searcher in San Jose, in October 2026: "I has Edge subscription but found no value in it. Do not recommend going for it." His advice for brokered deals was to spend the effort on a good website and a solid first pitch to brokers instead.

That is two opinions out of 36 comments across the two threads, most of which sit behind Searchfunder's login, so treat it as a signal and not a survey. But it matches what the feature list suggests. Knowing that 40 other people saved a listing does not tell you whether the cash flow is real. It tells you to hurry, which is rarely good for a buyer.

Edge is worth paying for in three cases:

  • You will use the valuation reports. If you expect to price four or more main street businesses this year, the reports alone cover the fee.
  • You are buying a location-dependent business. Demographics, walkability and commercial lease rates matter for a restaurant, a gym or a retail shop, and the real estate data comes from CoStar, BizBuySell's parent company.
  • You are an unknown buyer contacting brokers cold. The Edge profile shares your budget, timeframe, experience and credit score with the seller, which can get a reply you would not otherwise get.

It is not worth it if you are buying a software or online business. Demographics and lease rates are irrelevant, BizBuySell's board is mostly main street businesses, and nothing in Edge checks recurring revenue or churn.

BizBuySell Edge against other paid buyer memberships

Edge is the cheapest paid buyer membership we have read, and also the only one that adds no inventory. Each price below was read on the provider's own page on the date shown in our review of it.

Buyer membershipPrice
BizBuySell EdgeAs low as $20 a month
DealStream Pro$40 a month or $400 a year
Searchfunder$79 a month, $19 annual
Kumo Pro$89 a month
Buyouts Buyer Access$99 a month
BizScout Pro$199 a month, $129 annual

They sell different things. DealStream Pro unlocks premium listings and more daily inquiries. Kumo aggregates broker sites into one feed. BizScout Pro sells off-market leads. Searchfunder, whose own page lists $79 monthly, $19 a month on an annual plan and $432 for lifetime access, is a community with industry reports and contact credits. Buyouts covers one category, AI SaaS, and checks MRR, ARR, growth and churn against the billing system before a listing goes live. If you are comparing sourcing tools more widely, the deal sourcing platform cost comparison prices twelve of them.

What to do instead of paying for listing statistics

The question Edge answers is "how much attention is this listing getting?" The question that decides whether you should buy is "are these numbers true, and can I finance them?" Both of those you can start on without a membership.

For the first, ask the broker for three years of tax returns and twelve months of bank statements before you sign anything beyond an NDA. Deposits either support the revenue in the listing or they do not, and you can convert the PDF bank statements into a spreadsheet and total them by month in an evening. For the second, run the lender's cash flow test on the asking price. BizBuySell now marks some listings "SBA Loan Eligible" through a partner, and our page on what an SBA approved business for sale actually means has a checker that runs the same 1.25 times coverage test on any listing.

If the business you want is software, start where the numbers are already verified. Every AI SaaS listing on Buyouts shows MRR, churn and growth checked against the billing system, buyer membership starts at $99 a month, and there is no buyer success fee. See the buyer plans or browse the board.

Is BizBuySell free for buyers?

Yes. Searching listings, saving them, saving searches and contacting sellers and brokers are free with a registered account. Sellers pay to advertise. Edge is an optional upgrade and is not required to contact anyone.

How do I cancel a BizBuySell Edge membership?

BizBuySell's account menu has a Billing Info page under Account, which is where a subscription is managed. Its public Edge page publishes no cancellation or refund terms, so read them at checkout before choosing the annual plan. The Searchfunder poster who cancelled after a week had bought a single month, which is the low-risk way to try it.
